Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
